Common questions
How is the Kua number calculated?
Take your birth year (moved back one year if you were born before about 4 February), add its digits until you get one digit, then: men subtract it from 11, women add 4, reducing to one digit again. A result of 5 becomes 2 for men and 8 for women.
What are East and West group Kua numbers?
Kua numbers 1, 3, 4 and 9 are East group, with good directions north, south, east and southeast. Kua 2, 6, 7 and 8 are West group, with good directions west, northwest, southwest and northeast.
How do I use my lucky directions?
Feng shui practice suggests facing your Sheng Qi direction while working, sleeping with your head toward Tian Yi or Yan Nian, and avoiding a desk or bed that faces Jue Ming.
Why does the formula use gender?
The classical Eight Mansions formula counts the year forwards for women and backwards for men. The calculator follows that traditional rule.
