Born on January 23: Chinese zodiac and element

Every January 23 birthday falls in a Earth solar month of the Four Pillars (BaZi) calendar. Your zodiac animal, year element and Day Master depend on the year, so the table below works out all three for every year from 1950 to 2026. Dates in January and early February sit near Lichun (立春), the Chinese solar new year around 4 February, so the zodiac year flips partway through. The table already accounts for it.

January 23 by year

Day Master is the element of the day pillar, the character classical readers treat as “you”. Worked out with the 60-day ganzhi cycle and exact solar-term times; the year in this table is taken at noon, so on 3–5 February the year can change during the day itself.

What a Earth month means

Charts born in a Earth month start with extra Earth in the count. Tradition reads a strong element as a flavour, not a verdict. If your chart turns out light on Earth, its balancing colors are yellow, ochre, brown. Run the calculator to see your own count across all five.
